“Anyone can ask an AI who you are. You should be the first to know the answer.”
Our vision.
For twenty years, being findable meant showing up in a search engine. You could look yourself up, see the results and change them. Today people ask AI, and get one confident answer about who you are, where you work and what kind of person you seem to be. Some of it is true, some outdated, some simply invented.
AI can also connect traces that are harmless on their own into a profile, and that profile can be used to judge you, target you or deceive you. The GDPR gives you the right to see, correct and erase it, but only if you know what is out there.
We believe everyone has the right to see what machines say about them, and to change it. footprint makes that right usable, in the spirit of UN SDG 16.10 (access to information and fundamental freedoms) and SDG 10.2 (nobody treated differently because of what a machine inferred).
Why we started.
footprint started in Vienna, with three people and one question: what does AI actually say about us when someone asks? The answers were a mix of true, long outdated and simply made up, and there was no way to see or correct it.
So we built the tool we wanted for ourselves: honest about what AI knows, careful with your data, and on your side when it’s time to have something removed.
The team.
Three people from Vienna, building the profile check we wanted for ourselves.
